What do I need to look for in Chinese cell phones before buying?
– The processor: Chinese smartphones usually come with Mediatek processors. The quad-core is the MTK6589, the dual-core MTK6577 and then there are several single-cores. Of the single-core processors the only one that supports 3G is the MTK6575.
– The camera: There are from 0.3MPx to 13MPx (although it is actually 12.6). We recommend testing the device first since the cameras that actually come in Chinese cell phones do not correspond to what it says on the card. Sometimes they even come with better cameras than what it says on the box. The optics also change a lot, so it’s worth trying them out.
– Memory: 512 MB or 1GB of RAM. Mediatek processors do not support 2GB of RAM at the moment so don’t be fooled. As for the ROM, never buy less than 4GB since the internal memory fills up very quickly and in the end you cannot install programs.
– The screen: If we buy large screen devices, more than 5.3″, it is advisable to use 720p definitions. As for contrast, again it is important to test smartphones before buying them to avoid surprises. Many times we can find screens with low brightness that look bad in full sunlight.
– The battery: We do not recommend going below 2100 mAh for medium-sized mobiles and 2600 mAh for those with larger screens. Otherwise the battery will not last a day with 3G enabled.
In addition to all this, Chinese cell phone manufacturers offer a one-year warranty. Unfortunately this warranty is very difficult to execute smoothly unless you work with someone who can go in person to exchange the smartphones. If the device breaks down shortly after purchase, there are usually no problems, but if we try to change it after a few months and we have not bought anything from that supplier again, we will probably have a lot of problems.
