Trade missions are promotional visits made by company personnel to potential clients in other markets. Through them, the goal is to introduce products and services of the participating businesses with the aim of gaining new markets.
They can be of two types: direct, a group of manufacturers travel to a country, or inverse, a company invites a group of potential clients to visit its company and facilities. Both usually benefit from public aid to finance the trip or part of it. In Spain, the provincial chambers of commerce and the ICEX grant subsidies.
During the trade mission, the participating companies hold meetings with local counterparts, who must have been contacted beforehand according to the profile of the companies and the products and services offered. The interviews are generally arranged by the Embassies abroad, with the support of various public and private institutions.
