What should I check on Chinese mobile phones before buying?
– The processor: Chinese smartphones usually come with Mediatek processors. The quad-core is the MTK6589, the dual-core is the MTK6577, and then there are several single-core options. Of the single-core processors, the only one that supports 3G is the MTK6575.
– The camera: They range from 0.3 MP up to 13 MP (although it is actually 12.6). We recommend testing the device first because the cameras that actually come on Chinese mobile phones do not always match what is on the spec sheet. Sometimes they even come with better cameras than the box says. The optics also vary a lot, so it is worth trying them out.
– The memory: 512 MB or 1 GB of RAM. Mediatek processors do not yet handle 2 GB of RAM, so don't be fooled. As for ROM, never buy less than 4 GB since the internal memory fills up very quickly and in the end no programs can be installed.
– The screen: If we buy large-screen devices, more than 5.3", it is advisable to use 720p resolution. As for contrast, again we say to try the smartphones before buying them to avoid surprises. Many times we may find screens with low brightness that look poor in bright sunlight.
– The battery: We do not recommend going below 2100 mAh for medium-sized phones and 2600 mAh for larger-screen ones. Otherwise the battery will not last a day with 3G enabled.
In addition to all this, Chinese mobile phone manufacturers offer a one-year warranty. Unfortunately, this warranty is very difficult to enforce without problems unless you work with someone who can go in person to replace the smartphones. If the device breaks down shortly after purchase, there are usually no problems, but if we try to replace it months later and we haven't bought anything else from that supplier, they will probably put up a lot of obstacles.
