As every year around this time, the arrival of the Spring Festival, also known as Chinese New Year, is approaching. In 2014, Chinese New Year will be celebrated on January 31. We will leave behind the year of the snake to fully enter the year of the horse according to the Chinese horoscope.
As for importing from China, Chinese New Year is an extremely important moment. It means that from the last week of January (around the 23rd) until mid-February (around the 10th), the whole country will be on holiday.
Unlike what happens in the West, for example at Christmas, China completely ceases its activity. Workers travel to their hometowns, thousands of kilometres away, leaving factories empty. The same happens with logistics services. It is literally impossible to get goods out of China during these dates.
The return from holidays also tends to be quite chaotic for the industry. This is because many workers stay in their hometowns to get married, so factories have to start express recruitment processes to recover production as soon as possible.
