In an international sale and purchase transaction in which the EXW Incoterm is used, the seller is obliged to deliver the goods at his premises, having taken charge of preparing them so that the buyer is responsible for the costs and responsibility for the goods up to destination from the agreed time.
It is not always appropriate to use EXW as it is necessary for us as buyers to know the language and logistics of the country from which we are importing, so that we can solve any possible inconveniences that may arise. So it will be advisable to use it when dealing with small suppliers and large buyers with experience in this area.
Let’s imagine that we import a product from China and the terms of the sales contract are EXW. The seller will be responsible for packing, labeling and making the goods available to us on the agreed day and place (his factory), transferring the responsibility to us at the same time. We will take care of loading the goods on the truck, inland transport to the port in China, loading on the ship, international transport to Spain, unloading at the port and inland transport to our warehouse and of course all the management related to the import.
We hope you have understood and do not hesitate to leave a comment with any questions you may have.
