1. When can I register in the importers and exporters registry?
The first registration can be done at any time of the year. It is a question that responds more to their commercial need.
2. What are the requirements to operate as an Importer-Exporter?
- In order to operate as an importer you must first register with the Federal Administration of Public Revenues (AFIP).
- Gather and present the documentation required by Customs.
- Proof of financial solvency.
3. What does it mean to prove financial solvency?
A legal entity, whether a corporation, limited liability company or self-employed, must have an economic solvency determined by an amount of gross sales of 300 thousand pesos or more “in the immediately preceding calendar year or through a net worth of the same amount”, according to AFIP.
4. What happens if I cannot prove this financial solvency requirement?
In case you cannot prove the required financial solvency, you must provide a guarantee in the amount of 30 thousand pesos. It has a minimal cost of approximately 3 thousand pesos per year.

7. Are there people who are exempted from proving financial solvency?
Yes, AFIP says they are exempt:
- Subjects registered in the Simplified Regime for Small Taxpayers (Monotax).
- Subjects in possession of an income tax exemption certificate granted by the agency.
- The National State, the provinces and the municipalities, as well as the departments of the national, provincial or municipal public administration, the autarchic or decentralized entities, including State companies and State enterprises.
- Occasional importers and exporters, registered as such in the Registry and subject to the controls for determining the “occasional” status established in the Maria Computer System.
8. How long is the registration in the importers and exporters registry valid?
One year. The guaranteed periods are effective from August 1 of each year through July 31 of each year.
9. Is it necessary to renew the registration in the importers and exporters registry?
Yes. If you are considering the continuity of your activity as an exporter and/or importer and do not prove your financial solvency, you must renew your guarantee for a new annual period.
10. How long is the import registration valid?
It is valid for one year. In all cases, it expires every July 31. For renewal, you must present a solvency certificate, a guarantee or a surety insurance policy.
