The CE Mark is a mark that you have seen on countless products, for sure. What is the CE Marking for? Why is it important to import from China to Europe?
In this article we are going to talk about the importance of this small sticker that can give us a headache if we don’t do things right.
CE Marking
When we sell a product in the European Union, that product must comply with a Conformity Europe directive or directives certifying that it has passed all relevant controls, as is natural. In a way, we could say that it serves as a testimony, on the part of the manufacturer, that all standards are met.
I’m sure you’ve wondered why several directives. Well, the European Union has 20 directives of different application in products, so a product must meet all the requirements of these directives that apply to it, from the type of material of which the product is composed to the packaging of such products.
Thus, a product may comply with the Low Voltage Products Directive and at the same time not comply with the Children’s Toys Directive, for example. In this case, an electric car for children would not meet all the guidelines for obtaining the CE Mark.
Why is CE Marking important?
As you have already seen, if we want to import any product from China, it is essential to have this mark. The question is whether or not it is easy to obtain. In this sense, some subjects are much stricter than others. What is certain is that you will need it.
Not only because it is indispensable for selling products in the European Union, it can also serve as a guarantee for other countries outside the European Union. Not because it is required, which it is not, but because other countries take very much into consideration the quality standards that are promulgated with the conformity criteria of European countries.
The risk of not complying with CE Marking
It is key to have a reliable Chinese supplier, which manufactures products with this mark, if we are going to import from China. Why? Because if a product without such certification goes through the customs process, which in itself can be very complicated, and we introduce the product into the European Union, we could have a serious problem.
Thus, in the event that the European authorities detect this uncertified product, the corresponding fine, which is very heavy, would be levied on the importer of the product.
Therefore, we always recommend that you work with reliable suppliers, as we do at MingTa Group.
